Accessible playground draws more support

A plan to create Drumheller's only accessible playground continues to draw people's attention, and dollars.

Greentree School and its Parents Committee accepted a cheque on Monday, May 1 for $3,000 from local Tim Horton's owner Bob Carey.

"Kathy and I and our staff, we're just really excited and honoured to help out and give back to the community that supports us," he told 99.5 Drum FM. "Because it's such a wide reach into the community and it's for kids and we really love to support kids, as you know."

"It's absolutely wonderful, we sure enjoy this community," gushed Greentree Principal Erin Campbell-Bentley. "Everyone is stepping up and helping us out and we can't wait to see this actually happen."

It's the latest of several private donations to the project that will allow children with physical disabilities to play alongside able bodied kids. They're now around halfway to the goal of $350,000.

"To be the only one in the area really helps us out," admitted Campbell-Bentley. "No matter what, it's so important and it's going to be great for not only our kids, but all Drumheller kids."

The next scheduled fundraiser for the Greentree accessible playground is the Buick Test Drive event at Western GM in Drumheller on May 26 and 27.
