Wheelchair accessibility coming to Greentree playground

Greentree playground is one step closer to being renovated to become more accessible.

Parent council received a cheque for $1000 from H&R Block on April 21.

"Everybody has come together as both a school community and town community," said Kim Groves with the Greentree parent council. "Everybody is excited about the playground and really wanting to help out."

Community members gave a donation from their tax refund in addition to the donation made by H&R Block.

The Drumheller Rotary Club, Greentree parents, Dr. Rithesh Ram, Centre Street Insurance and Kinsmen have also contributed to the cause.

"We have lots of community members that need that accessibility; small children, children in wheelchairs that are both inside and outside the community," explained Groves. "It will be the only wheelchair accessible playground in Drumheller."

The school will be continuing fundraising by hosting a family casino towards the end of May, which will include raffle tickets and a silent auction.

"It costs a lot of money, I think our goal is $350,000," she added. "We are over halfway there with the funds we've raised between the grants that we have gotten and the community support so far."

Groves added that if anyone is interested volunteering to help out with fundraising they can contact Greentree School.
